WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: HORNETS SHOCK THE CHARGERS

In an Orange Empire Conference game between district rivals, Fullerton upset No. 14 Cypress 3-2 on Wednesday night.

It was sophomore night for the Hornets as six FC athletes (Kailyn Case, Carlie Ortega, Lauren Schaefer, Kendall Compos, Samaria Longstreet, Andrea Lopez) played their final home game, and they did it in grand fashion.

In game one, Fullerton came out strong taking an early 11-2 lead. Cypress came firing back nearly taking the set, but FC held strong taking it 25-23. Game two was all Hornets, until the end. Up 24-19, Fullerton let the Chargers back in the match dropping 7 straight points to lose it 26-24. In game three, the Hornets edged out Cypress 26-24 and then lost game four 25-21. In the fifth and final set, the Hornets jumped ahead early and finished off the Chargers 15-11.

FC freshman Amanda Henderson played her best with a season-high 27 kills with 11 digs. Kailyn Case had 5 kills, 36 assists, and 13 digs. Lauren Schaefer knocked down 5 kills with 5 aces, while scooping up 17 digs. Andrea Lopez had 5 kills, 4 aces, and 12 digs. Carlie Ortega was all over the floor with a team-high 18 digs.

Up Next: The Hornets (13-7 overall, 8-6 OEC) will hit the road this Friday, November 9th when they take on Riverside City College for another conference matchup. Game time is at 6:00 pm.
