WOMEN'S WATER POLO: HORNETS GO BIG ON ORANGE COAST

After suffering a 16-12 loss to the Pirates at the Cuesta Tournament last month, the Hornets stepped up their game crushing Orange Coast at home in a conference match 20-5.

Both teams came into the game tied for with 3-2 records in the Orange Empire Conference. Fullerton now stands alone in third place with an overall record of 18-8 and an OEC record of 4-2. Undefeated Riverside City sits atop the OEC standings at 6-0 with Golden West trailing in second by a game at 5-1.

The Hornets took a 6-2 lead in the first quarter, and then seriated themselves by halftime with a 9-3 edge.

The second half was all Fullerton as they outscored the Pirates 11-2 for the win.

The state leader in goals scored, Gabbi Perez, was double and triple teamed all game and still managed 10 goals. Marissa Vaccher followed up with 4 goals and Veronica Ramirez scored 3. Bianca Vera added 2 goals as well. Ashley Garcia chipped in with 5 assists and Perez with 4.

FC goalie Maddi Garcia played very well in the cage blocking 13 shots.

Up Next: The Hornets (18-8 overall, 4-2 OEC) will play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament November 3-5 at Saddleback College.
