WOMEN'S WATER POLO: FC STAKES CLAIM FOR NO. 1

After winning the Long Beach City College Invitational over the weekend, the Hornets proved that they truly are the No. 1 team in the state.

The tournament opened on Friday with the Hornets beating Citrus 16-5 and Mt. San Antonio 12-7. 

Alexandra Lopez (3 goals), Abigail Nunez (3 goals), Jessica Contreras (3 goals), and Bryanna Santis (2 goals) were big contributors in the win over Citrus.

For the Mt. SAC win, the Hornets leaned heavy on Alexandra Lopez, who scored 6 goals. Venezia Atilano contributed 2 goals.

On Saturday, FC flexed some muscle knocking off No.4 Riverside City 10-7 and then went on to defeat No. 1 Santa Barbara City 10-8.

The Tigers took an early lead in the first quarter shutting out Fullerton 2-0. The Hornets returned the favor in the second scoring 3 unanswered goals of their own. Heading into the fourth quarter tied 6-6, FC rattled off 4 goals to RCC's 1 goal to win the match. Brianna Santis and Jessica Contreras both scored 3 goals each. Santis also had 6 steals. Abigail Nunez scored 2 goals and had 2 steals.

Three Hornets tossed in 2 goals a piece in Alexandra Lopez, Tarsis Ledezma, and Briana Portales. Fullerton led 7-3 at the half and went ahead 8-3 early in the third period. Santa Barbara has only two losses on the season, and both are from Fullerton. The season record between these two talented teams stands 1-2.

In all four games played goalie Tatiana Cava had 44 saves with 27 goals against.
