WOMEN'S WATER POLO: CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!!!

After beating Riverside City College, the Hornets are the Orange Empire Conference Champions for the second time in the last three seasons.

Fullerton hosted the OEC Championships over the weekend and had great success winning it all.

In the semi-final game against No.3 Golden West, the Hornets had a hard time scoring in the first half due to a strong defensive scheme by the Rustlers. The Hornets were equally stingy as both teams went into the second half tied 2-2.

The third quarter was a different ball game as Fullerton exploded with 6 unanswered goals. FC kept the Rustlers scoreless in the fourth quarter and went on to win it 11-2.

Fullerton Goalie Tatiana Cava had 2 goals against and collected 7 saves.

The championship game had the No. 2 Hornets playing against No. 1 Riverside City College. The Tigers were the only team to beat Fullerton in conference-play this season.

The first quarter ended in a 1-1 tie. The second quarter favored the Hornets as they ended the half up 3-2. The second half was a battle-royale as both teams struggled to get an edge, but the game ended in a 5-5 tie forcing overtime. Overtime did not resolve the stalemate as botht teams began a second overtime tied at 6 apiece. In double overtime, Abigail Nunez powered her way through the water past a defender and tossed in the winning goal.

Hornet goalie Tatiana Cava was stellar in the box with 13 saves.

Up Next: The Hornets will now go into the Southern California Regionals as the No. 1 seed at Cerritos College November 8-10.
