WOMEN'S WATER POLO: SO SWEET- WINNING SOCAL REGIONALS

The No.1 Hornets did their job at the Southern California Regional Championships at Cerritos College over the weekend sweeping through their opponents to win the title!

The wins now propel Fullerton to the CCCAA State Championship where they will be the No. 1 seed from the south.

On Friday, the Hornets took on San Diego Mesa College handing them a 17-6 loss. Bryanna Santis led the charge scoring 4 goals, while Tarsis Ledezma and Jessica Contreras followed up with 3 goals each. Abigail Nunez and Diana Leivas both scored 2 goals apiece.

Saturday had Fullerton doing double duty playing two of the state's powerhouse squads in Long Beach and Santa Barbara City. LBCC gave the Hornets all they could handle forcing overtime. In the end, it was FC that shined through winning 9-8.

In the SoCal finals later in the day, Fullerton had to face off against Santa Barbara City College. SBCC was ranked No. 1 in the state throughout the regular season and had beaten the Hornets earlier in the year. FC took a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Vaqueros evened it up in the second at 5-5. Santis and Leivas tossed in a pair of goals giving Fullerton a 7-5 lead by halftime. The second half was a tight battle with the Hornets holding on to a 1-goal edge. Contreras' goal in the end sealed the title with an 11-9 win for FC.

Up Next: The CCCAA State Championship at West Valley College November 16-17. No. 1 South Fullerton will play No. 2 North San Joaquin Delta College on Friday in the Semi-Final game at 1:00 pm.
