WOMEN’S WATER POLO: THE SOCAL REGIONAL CHAMPS!

After sweeping through the competition at Riverside City College on Friday and Saturday, the Hornets claimed the Southern California Regional Championship for the second consecutive season.

On Friday, FC knocked off LA Valley 13-6. FC pulled an early lead in the first quarter ripping off three goals to the Monarch's one. LA Valley pulled within one of the Hornets (5-4) midway through the second quarter, but Fullerton pushed back taking a 7-4 lead by halftime. The second half was all Hornets as they held LAV to only two goals.

On Saturday, the Hornets played a tight contest against Citrus College before beating the Owls 13-9. By the end of the first quarter, FC had a narrow 5-3 edge and then doubled it to 8-4 by halftime. FC outscored the Owls in the third two goals to one. Citrus then pumped in four goals to FC's three in the fourth, but it was not enough to overtake the Hornets.

In the championship game against Riverside City, Fullerton fought off the Tigers in another tough battle 8-5. The four previous matches between these two skilled teams weres an absolute battle, and this one was no different. A defensive struggle, the first quarter ended in a 1-1 tie. The Tigers took a 2-1 advantage in the second, but Fullerton tallied three goals to RCC's one in the third giving the Hornets a 5-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter. FC did not hold back finishing off the game with another three goals to Riverside's one to wrap up the SoCal Regional title for the third time in the college's history.

No. 1 in the state Fullerton now owns a 4-1 season series lead over No. 2 RCC.
