2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, & 2021 Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year - 2014 State Co-Coach of the Year & 2019 State Coach of the Year

Since his first season in 2008 as the head coach of the Hornets, Gabriel Martinez has built a winning tradition winning two state titles along with four Orange Empire Conference titles. 

Martinez has produced 13 twenty-win seasons, 2 thirty-win seasons, and 4 Orange Empire Conference titles. He led the Hornets to their first state championship in 2014 with an undefeated record of 35-0 and then did it again in 2019 with an ovrerall record of 32-3. Coach Martinez's teams have never failed to miss the playoffs making appearances in 13 out of 13 seasons played (no season in 2020 due to COVID-19).

Coach Martinez is the winningest FC women’s water polo coach since the program began in 1996 with 376 total wins, 120 losses with an incredible winning percentage of .758.

Gabriel has also served as the head women's water polo coach and Program Director for Commerce Water Polo guiding over 300 players to the college level.

Martinez was the Mexican Women's National Coach and Program Director for two seasons (2007, 2008) playing in the Pan American games.

Martinez was an assistant water polo coach on the USA Women's Youth team from 2002-2005, was an assistant coach for aquatics at Santa Ana College from 2005-2007, and was the Co-Head Coach for women's water polo at Golden West College from 2002-2004.

Gabriel's other achievements include the 2001 and 2009 USA Water Polo Coach of the Year award, USWP gold certification, and a has won a number of USA National titles as a coach. In his spare time, he is a water polo referee at various levels.
