WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: THE OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Orange Empire Conference Championships were hosted by Golden West College and held at Central Park in Huntington Beach last Friday.
The seven-team conference competed on the dry course, as there was a threat for a chance of rain that day.
Cassidy Nyenhuis finished first for the Lady Hornets and Belen Gonzalez was just eight seconds behind her crossing the finish line. Kaitlyn Holt shaved a minute off of her previous time for a third place finish for the Hornets.
Haley Hogberg, Daniela Hernandez, Amber Hernandez, and Samantha Beall all collectively grouped in together to finish up the team scoring.
The ladies finished in sixth place overall with 161 points in a race that featured 52 runners. Unfortunately, this was the Hornets last race of the season as the top five teams advanced on to Southern California Regional Championships.
"We need to heal from our injuries and the ladies did as good of a job as they could. We look forward to our off-season and what we can accomplish in the spring", Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.
