HORNETS RISE UP

HORNETS RISE UP: Fullerton College beat Saddleback College 7-6 in a wild one on Saturday.

The #12 Hornets (11-6 overall, 3-2 OEC) fell behind early to the 5th ranked Gauchos (11-5 overall, 2-3 OEC ) 2-0 in the top of the 2nd inning.

FC got things going in the bottom 3rd when OF Ryan Joyce smacked an inside the park homer to right center field. The Hornets went on to score three more runs that series and two more in the 4th going up on the Gauchos 6-2.

Saddleback did not go away quietly as they roared back scoring 3 runs in the 5th and added another in the 7th to tie the game at 6 a piece.

In the 8th inning, the Hornets scored the game's final run on a single hit to left field by 2B Nick Gotta allowing OF Uriel Salinas to cross the plate. 

From there, Fullerton RP Jacob Miller cooled the Gaucho bats to earn his second win on the season.

Fullerton starter Jeff Curran (5-0) got the No Decision after throwing 7 innings allowing 12 hits, 3 earned runs, 0 walks, and 1 strikeouts. Jacob Miller (2-0, 1 save) came in again this week to pitch the final 2 innings allowing only 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 strikeout and 1 walk (intentional).

1B Erik Lewis and DH Troy Mulcahey both had 2 hits and scored a run for the Hornets.  OF Dakota Wix delivered again with a hit and 2 RBIs.  Catcher Oliver Jackson also contributed with a hit and 2 RBIs.  SS Jose Rojas had a hit, a run and a RBI.

Up Next: Fullerton travels to Cypress College on Tuesday, March 12th.  Game time is at 2:00 pm.
