MEN'S SOCCER: MOVING ON UP

Fullerton took back the No. 1 position in the standings on Friday knocking off Orange Coast College in a conference home match 2-0.

It was a must-win game for last season's conference champs as they are in the middle of a tight race for another Orange Empire Conference title. The victory also evened out the season series at one apiece with Fullerton losing in the first game at OCC 2-1 back on October 1st.  Prior to the match, OCC was ranked No. 9 in the state while FC was ranked No. 16.

The first half was a defensive struggle as both teams came up scoreless.

The Hornets finally broke through with a goal in the 75th minute when Ryan Meinardus tapped the ball to Gerardo Leon-Camberos who took advantage of the Pirate's goalie.

FC sealed the match at the 81 minute mark on a goal by Alejandro Castillo. The assist  was courtesy of Kentrell Dorsey.

Fullerton goalie Anthony Rodriguez got the nod in the box and it paid off. He locked down a shutout with 6 saves in 90 minutes of play.

Up Next: The Hornets (8-4-4 overall, 4-1-2 conference) will play on the road at Irvine Valley College on Tuesday, October 29th at 3:00 pm.
