M. TRACK & FIELD: SEASON'S END

The FC men's track and field team wrapped up their 2014 season competing at the So Cal Regional Prelims meet held at Riverside City College last Friday with some solid performances to round out the season.

Javier Weatherspoon, Javelin (145-11) and Dimitrus Nelson- Robbins, Shot Put (40-11 ¾) both competed in their respected throws and came up, just a few inches short of advancing to the final round.

On the track side, Jonathan Baek (58.89) and Rudy Membrano (56.56) both solid races in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles, but at this level solid races won't advance to the final round.

Brandon Velasco (33:31) ran in the grueling 10,000 meter (25 laps) race, where the temperature was pushing 90 degrees at the start of the race. While Velasco ran a very smart race, staying within the lead pack for ¾ of the race, as the race went on, the pace and heat had the freshman fall off just enough not hit the standard necessary for him to move on to the state meet to be held in two weeks at Mount San Antonio College.

On the field, Gavin Proctor continued to improve in the high jump, jumping 6-3 ¼, which would leave him two inches short of advancing to the finals next week. Overall the Hornets had a decent season.

"With the team comprising of mostly freshman this year, next year should show huge improvements and with a good recruiting class and maybe a few more athletes from other teams on campus the hornets could go after the stronghold that Riverside and Orange Coast has on this conference", first year Head Coach Wade Watkins.
