MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: OPENS OEC WITH A WIN

On Wednesday, Fullerton College opened up the Orange Empire Conference winning at home in three consecutive sets versus Santiago Canyon College 3-0.

Not wanting to be down a set early in the game, both teams pushed the tempo. The first set was high scoring, both teams had rallies that shifted the momentum of the game. However, Fullerton nudged out Santiago Canyon at the end winning 25-23. The Hornets ended with a total of 17 kills in the first set.

In set two, FC only had 12 kills but the defense shined throughout the set. Applying pressure on the opponent via blocks Santiago was not able to move the ball across the net consistently. Fullerton took the second set 25-13.

Santiago Canyon tried to rally back to win a set. Unfortunately, they were 4 point short in the third set. The Hornets 15 kills and 9 team blocks helped get the set 25-21 along with the OEC opener.

There were some key players in the game that included Shawn Stolt, who had 5 block assists and 7 kills. Kevin Poku on the other hand had 14 kills, 3 digs, 1 block assist, and 1 block solo. Garrett Geiger contributed to the team with 12 kills 5 digs and 1 block solo.

Up Next: The Hornets (7-4 overall 1-0 conference) will play at Golden West College on Friday, March 16 at 6:00 pm. On Wednesday, March 21 Fullerton will host Orange Coast College at 6:00 pm.
