MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: TWO BIG WINS ON THE ROAD

Fullerton College adds two conference road-wins to the victory column after beating Irvine Valley College 3-2 and Santiago Canyon College 3-0 last week.

After losing to the 2nd ranked team in the state Orange Coast College in a close 5 set match, Fullerton College (ranked 7th in the state) did not let the Pirates loss deter them from defeating #3 Irvine Valley College 3-2.

Just like the OCC game, the Hornets started off strong winning the first two sets of the match. Irvine Valley College responded and took the third and fourth set forcing a fifth set to decide the winner.

The Hornets must have learned their lesson from Orange Coast as they held strong outpacing the Lasers by two points for the much-needed Orange Empire Conference win.

Kyle Young (17 kills, 3 digs, 3 block assists) and Garrett Geiger (16 kills, 6 digs, 2 block assists) were big factors in the win. Zach Huizar had 13 digs and Brian Marquez had 57 assists.

The next day, Fullerton had a quick turnaround when they traveled to Santiago Canyon College for another conference match. The Hornets kept the fire burning from the previous night sweeping through the Hawks in three straight sets.

With only a few weeks left in the regular season, the Hornets are doing their best to make a push into the playoffs. They will have a rematch at Orange Coast College and they will host Irvine Valley College in the coming weeks. The outcome of those games will determine Fullerton's future seeding in the post season.

Geiger and Jacob Van Der Beek both brought down 13 kills apiece. Geiger also had 8 digs and 3 block assists. Marquez contributed 37 assists for the win.

Up Next: The Hornets (10-5 Overall, 4-1 OEC) will host Golden West College on Wednesday, April 4 at 6:00 pm.
