BUZZING PAST PIRATES

BUZZING PAST PIRATES

On Wednesday, the Hornets hosted Orange Coast College in a conference matchup and held off the Pirates 4-3.

The FC squad had an up and down week leading up to today's game breaking a four-game losing streak on Friday with two wins over Ventura and Cuesta, and then losing the next two games on Saturday to Santa Barbara City and Moorpark. Fullerton's conference win today could be the spark the team needed to get over the hump now sitting 4th place in the Orange Empire Conference at 7-5, while OCC now falls to 5-7.

FC's Emily Flores (7-3) got the nod in the circle and tossed a solid 7-hit complete game with 3 runs, 1 walk, and 3 K's.

The Hornets scored the game's first run in the opening inning when Olivia Nunez reached first on an OCC fielding error that gave Ariana Gonzalez scored the chance to come home.

Fullerton took a 3-0 lead in the third on Taylar Lannon's single to left field that scored Monique Rangel, and Alendy Aguilar came across from third on a wild pitch.

The Pirates tied the game up in the fourth inning when Ashlee Kean reached on a fielder's choice on a bunt allowing Hailey Pichardo and Taylor Andolsek to score. Then Gillian Gordon doubled to right field plating Kean.

The final and game winning run came in the bottom of the fifth on Alyssa Haro's single to right field scoring Alaina Guerrero.

Up Next: The Hornets (14-13-1 overall, 7-5 OEC) will get back on the diamond on Friday, April 1st when they host Santiago Canyon College for another OEC game at 2:00 pm.
