SOPHOMORE DAY MERCY

The Hornets finished off the regular season at home celebrating Sophomore Day with a 9-1 mercy-rule-win over Saddleback College on Wednesday afternoon. 

Before the game the FC softball coaching staff honored seven Hornet sophomores for their hard work and dedication the past couple of years. Dee Ramirez, Casey Dufrene, Nicole Klenske, Alyssa Haro, Nicole Gonzalez, Rachel Varela, and Skye Samano were surrounded by friends and family and recognized for their efforts. Five Saddleback sophomore were also given flowers and recognized by the Hornets.

Fullerton came out swinging in the first inning scoring 45runs. Casey Dufrene's single to left field got it started scoring Alendy Aguilar. Bella Morales then knocked a single through the left side scoring Dufrene. Jocelyn Jauregui cracked a triple to left field plating Morales and Olivia Nunez. Dee Ramirez finished off the inning with a fielder's choice allowing Jauregui to safely come home. 

FC kept the runs coming in the third inning putting up 3 more on scoreboard. Dee Ramirez doubled down the lf line scoring Bella Morales, Emily Flores hit a SAC Fly to left field giving Jocelyn Jauregui the chance to score from third, and Alendy Aguilar singled through the left side bringing in Ramirez. 

Saddleback had some fight left loading the bases in the fifth inning. Kianna Gutierrez then came up to the plate hitting a single to left field that scored Katie Schmidt for the Bobcat's lone run. 

In the bottom of the sixth Bella Morales finished the game off with a single to left field that scored Olivia Nunez from second base enforcing the Mercy-rule at 9-1. 

FC starting pitcher Emily Flores (8-6) locked down her eighth win of the season going 5.2 innings allowing 4 total hits, no runs, no walks, and had 3 strikeouts. 

Up Next: Fullerton (19-19-1 overall, 12-9 OEC) will begin play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament at home against Orange Coast College this Friday, April 22nd. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
