The Hornets fired up a 5-2 win on Tuesday facing off against the Orange Empire Conference rival Riverside City at home.
The game began with an early mistake from the Hornet defense. RCC's Abigail Baldwin reached first on a throwing error allowing Rebeca Razo and Jocelyn Romero to score.
Fullerton refused to be shaken scoring three runs in the bottom of the second when Linsey Arostigue delivered a clutch sacrifice fly to left field that brought in pinch runner Kasey Nichols (Avery Wiersma got on from a single up the middle). Hope Morales then lined a single to right field, bringing in two more runs as Milene Mendoza and Juliana Ursino crossed the plate, flipping the score to 3-1 in favor of Fullerton.
The Hornets took control of the game in the fourth inning adding two more security runs. Bethany Morrison slapped a single to third base allowing Milene Mendoza to score again. Moments later, Veronica Moore added another run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Morrison to make it 5-1.
With their confidence high and the scoreboard in their favor, the Hornets looked to close out the game strong. FC pitcher Grace Workman stood strong finishing the game going 7 strong innings allowing only 4 hits, no earned runs, had no walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Up Next: The Hornets (11-15 overall, 5-5 OEC) will play the second game of the three-game series with RCC on Thursday, April 3rd at Riverside City. The first pitch goes out at 3:00 pm.
