After a disappointing 7-3 road-loss at Riverside City on Thursday, the Hornets shined at home Friday with a 12-1 mercy-win over the Tigers winning two out of three in the OEC series.
Sophomore 1B Veronica Moore snapped the school record for career RBI locking down 80 breaking the previous record of 78 set by Anabel Mendez (2017, 2019). Moore tied the single season RBI record during the state championship run last season with 46 with Mendez. She currently has 33 and looking for more with ten regular-season games left.
The game started with Fullerton immediately making a statement in the first inning, Taofa Pua launched a two-run homer to left field, putting FC on the board early. Jianna Lopez followed up with a two-RBI triple, extending the lead to 4-0 before the Tigers could even blink.
The Hornets continued their offensive surge in the second inning when Bethany Morrison hammered a double to left field, bringing in two more runs and pushing the score to 6-0.
Riverside showed signs of life in the third when Alysse Flores knocked in a run with a single, cutting the deficit to 6-1. But any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed as FC erupted for another massive inning.
Bethany Morrison did some more damage hitting a single driving in another run. Veronica Moore delivered her record-breaking three-RBI double to center, pushing the lead to double digits at 10-1. Avery Wiersma and Linsey Arostigue added RBI hits to extend the lead to 12-1, sealing the fate of Riverside.
Getting the nod in the circle was Hope Morales, who tossed a 5-inning game with 7 hits, 1 run, and had no walks.
Up Next: The Hornets (12-16 overall, 6-6 OEC) will play a non-conference game at Cerritos College this Saturday, April 5th at 1:00 pm.
