WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: DESERT CLASSIC CONSOLATION CHAMPS

For the third season in a row, the Hornets were the Consolation Champions at the College of the Desert Classic.

On Friday, Fullerton drew Pasadena City College and lost to the Lancers 66-55. FC fell behind early in the opening minutes 5-2, but managed to tie it up at 8 apiece on a shot by Jaelyn Alderete at 4:48. Everything went right for PCC as they went on a 12-3 run to end the first quarter. By the start of the second quarter, the Hornets were down 20-11. The Lancers did not let up grabbing a 23 point lead near halftime. FC did its best to get back into the game during the second half winning the third and fourth quarters, but Pasadena's early lead was too big of a hole to fill. Moriah Serrano scored a team-high 13 points, while Tristian Johns put up 11.

In game two on Saturday, Fullerton took on Orange Empire Conference rival Copper Mountain College and beat the Fightin' Cati 72-57. The Hornets took the game over early in the first quarter with a 15-6 lead and never looked back. Four Fullerton players scored in double digits with Tristian Johns leading the way with 15 points. Serrano scored 13, Hannah Jones 12, and Fia Tailele-Latu dropped in 10 points.

The Consolation Championship was held on Sunday, and the Hornets had to face the tournament host in College of the Desert. FC played hard and won big 71-41. Like their previous game, the Hornets jumped up early with a 19-8 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. By halftime, FC held a 37-24 lead and controlled the remainder of the game. Fullerton took advantage of the Roadrunner turnovers scoring 29 points, while out-rebounding them 52-38. Johns had a big game scoring a game-high 22 points with 9 rebounds. Tailele-Latu scored 15 points, and Serrano put up 11. Alderete came off the bench to score 12 points and brought down 6 rebounds.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-5 overall) will host the 40th Annual Colleen Riley Holiday Classic tournament. The tournament will run December 27-29 with FC opening up against San Diego Mesa on Thursday, Dec. 27th at 1:00 pm.
