WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: HORNETS FALL IN 5 TO OCC

The Fullerton Hornets and Orange Coast Pirates battled each other for five sets on Wednesday night, with the match determining who would leave as the second place team in the Orange Empire Conference.

Back in September, these two teams met at Orange Coast College where the Hornets would leave victorious, sweeping the Pirates in three sets.

The first set on Wednesday was all Fullerton as they looked to set the tone as the home team. They would come out with a set win by a comfortable 25-17 score.

The tables were turned on them in the second set as Orange Coast posted up a nearly identical win, beating Fullerton 25-15.

Set 3 continued the intense back and forth between the two OEC teams, but this time the tide swung back in Fullerton's favor as they won 25-18, putting them one set-win away from the No. 2 spot in the conference standings.

Orange Coast would bend but they would not break, returning the favor yet again by coming back from a dropped set, beating the Hornets by a score of 25-21 to force a fifth set.

Set 5 really took the air out of the room as the Hornets would go down and could not find a way to recover before being edged out by the Pirates by a score of 15-11.

Ultimately, the Hornets had a difficult time serving, and it would be their Achilles heel as they would end the night with 13 total service errors.

The Orange Empire Conference standings now have the Pirates (8-3) just ahead of the Hornets (7-3). Orange Coast has not had their bye week and have yet to tackle first place Irvine Valley College.
