The FC women's volleyball team battled hard but came up just short on the road Wednesday night dropping an OEC match at Riverside City College 3-2.
Fullerton's defeat put the team at 4-13 overall with a 2-10 Orange Empire Conference record, while the RCC win lifts the Tigers to 6-17 overall and at 4-8 in the OEC.
The Hornets opened strong winning the first two sets 26-24 and 26-24 behind efficient play and timely defense. However, momentum swung the Tiger's way as the team clawed back to take the next two sets 25-12 and 25-12 before sealing the match in the deciding fifth 15-7.
Fullerton was led by outside hitter Klaudia Bustillo, who turned in a strong all-around performance with 7 kills and 14 digs. Savannah Hernandez and Kennedy Dobrea both chipped in 3 kills each. Addison Campbell delivered 9 assists with 9 digs, while Jaidyn Preciado ran the floor with 12 digs of her own.
Despite dropping the final sets, the Hornets displayed resilience throughout competing closely in the first two games and showing flashes of aggressive offense. Defensively, Fullerton dug up 55 balls on the night, highlighted by consistent backrow play from Bustillo, Preciado, and Ortega.
