HORNETS SURGING

The No. 2 in state FC women's water polo squad has been on a tear winning 15 straight games after defeating Saddleback College 14-4 at home Wednesday.

It was a good win for the Hornets, who are now 6-0 at home and 3-0 in the Orange Empire Conference. Sitting in first place with Orange Coast College, Fullerton still has two more OEC matches with OCC, Riverside City, and must make a big run in the OEC Tournament in order to repeat as the conference champs.

The first quarter of the game was not a flattering one for FC as the team came out flat against the Bobcats falling behind 2-1. After a timeout called by Fullerton head coach Gabriel Martinez, the Hornets went on a 5-0 run taking a 7-2 lead. Adrianna Wong's 3 straight goals got the team going in the right direction.

Owning a 7-3 lead heading into the third quarter, Fullerton applied more pressure on Saddleback forcing 12 turnovers, while holding the Bobcats to only 2 more goals.

Wong led FC with 5 goals with 4 assists, and Neida Torres followed with 3 goals of her own. Jordyn Lughart had 4 steals and 2 assists. Nikkie Salerno chipped in with 3 assists and 2 steals.

Hornet goalie Alex Airitam was stellar with 10 saves for the win.

Up Next: Fullerton (18-1 overall, 3-0 OEC) will play another OEC match on Wednesday, October 19th at Riverside City College. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
