BASEBALL: TWO-GAME SWEEP OVER GADES

The Hornet baseball team traveled up to Bakersfield College to play two games on Friday and Saturday and won both over the Renegades.

In the first game on Friday, Fullerton won by a narrow margin of 3-2.

FC dropped two first inning runs on Bakersfield to open the game. LF Austin O'Banion hit a double to left field scoring CF Joey Parente, and RF Shane Carrier singled to right field scoring O'Banion.

The Hornets added another run in the third on a single to left by Carrier allowing O'Banion to cross home plate.

The Renegades made their move in the fifth when Jasse Oliver hit one to right field scoring Harris Smith. Bro Douglas followed up with a single to right scoring Jasse.

The arm of Hornet Randall Ortiz held strong as Bakersfield was held scoreless for the rest of the game.

Ortiz earned his second win on the season going 7 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs, and 7 strikeouts. RP Nick Vega allowed a hit and Louis Corral grabbed his first save going 1.1 with no hits and 2 K's.

In the second game on Saturday, the Hornet bats were lively garnering 11 total hits to Bakersfield's 6 winning the game 7-2.

O'Banion got it started again knocking in 2B Laine Huffman in the first.

In the fifth, the Renegades took the lead dropping two runs on the Hornets, but FC turned it around in the top of the six putting up four runs of their own. In the seventh, Fullerton scored two more insurance runs and held Bakersfield scoreless.

Joey Parente and SS Justin Row were both 2-5 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Huffman was 2-4 scoring 2 runs and had 3 RBI. O'Banion was 2-3 with a run and 2 RBI.

On the mound, Junior Ramirez won his first game of the season throwing 7 innings with 5 hits against, 1 earned run, and 6 K's. RP Chris Sanchez put in 2 innings of work with 1 hit against.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-1 overall) will travel south to San Diego County to play at Southwestern College on Tuesday, February 16th. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
