BASEBALL: CARRIER HOMERS THREE TIMES AT CERRITOS

In a non-conference game at Cerritos College on Thursday, Fullerton outfielder Shane Carrier put the team on his shoulders blasting three homeruns with 7 RBI lifting the Hornets above the Falcons 10-4.

The win gives the Hornets an overall record of 9-1, while the Falcon loss lands them at 6-4 overall.

Fullerton took advantage early with a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Carrier hit his first home run knocking in Austin O'Banion.

After the Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on consecutive RBI singles from shortstop Daniel Lopez and second baseman Derrick Edwards, the Hornets struck back hard with five runs in the fifth inning. Carrier hit his second homer of the day knocking in Laine Huffman and David Miranda. Carrier went on to knock his third one out of the park, a two-run shot, in the seventh inning.

The Falcons were able to push across single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but the damage was already done as the Hornets went on to win their seventh straight game.

Starting FC pitcher Anthony Parente went 4 innings giving up 2 hits and 3 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. RP Dylan De Chavez took the win tossing 3 innings while giving up 2 hits, no earned runs, and 2 strikeouts. Relief pitchers Nick Vega and Louis Corral both went an inning and did not give up a run.

Carrier's home run mark ties a record set by Brian Logan, who set the record back April 29th, 1997 against Golden West College. Both Carrier and O'Banion have knocked in 7 RBI this season, a feat that has not been done since David Cosato back in 1999 against Riverside City College. The current RBI in a game record stands at 8 by Poncho Ruiz who hot the mark in 1996 against Saddleback College.

Up Next: The Hornets (9-1) will host College of the Canyons (8-1) this Saturday, February 27th on Hornet Field @ 1:00 pm.
