BASEBALL: SERIES SWEEP OVER THE DONS

The Hornets took care of business on Thursday beating Santa Ana College 16-10 in 12 innings sweeping the three-game season series.

The win gives #4 SoCal FC an overall record of 16-2 and an Orange Empire Conference record of 6-0, while the loss send #1 SoCal Santa Ana reeling at 14-5 overall and 3-4 in the OEC.

The Hornets kicked off the game with a two-run homer by Austin O'Banion that brought in Justin Row.

In the bottom of the second, the Dons tied it up 2-2 when Nathan Cervantes hit one on the gap for a double scoring Andrew Ramos and Jeff Murray.

Down 10-6 in the ninth, the Dons rallied from a four-run deficit forcing extra innings. Trevor Steinman and Chris Major each drove in a run on a pair of RBI-singles before Tommy Anderson hit into a fielder's choice allowing Steinman and Manny Velazquez, who came in as pinch runner for Major, to score and tie the game.

The Hornets held off the Don's bid at a walk-off win by getting two-straight outs after Patrick Cromwell reached on an error and Andrew Ramos was intentionally walked. Cromwell reached third on a Steinman flyout but SAC was unable to bring him home.

All was quiet offensively on both sides in the first two innings of bonus play, but the Hornets came out swinging with five hits, including two home runs, to put the game away with 6 runs in the twelfth inning. Laine Huffman singled to the left side scoring Row and Joey Parente. O'Banion hit a single scoring Huffman, and Shane Carrier blasted a two-run homer scoring O'Banion. David Miranda got in on the score-fest hitting a solo home run to seal the game.
D. Miranda homered, RBI.

Carrier was hot at the plate going 6-7 with 4 runs and 2 RBI. Miranda was 3-5 with 2 runs and 4 RBI. O'Banion went 3-6 with 4 runs and 3 RBI. Joey Parente was 3-7 with a run and a RBI.

Nick Vega (3-0) earned the win for the Hornets holding the Dons hitless over two innings.
