BASEBALL: FENDING OFF TIGERS

Fullerton hosted Riverside City College on Thursday for game two of the three-game Orange Empire Conference series with the Hornets coming through with a 10-7 win.

The series is now tied 1-1 with #3 Fullerton owning an overall record of 22-7 and has an OEC record of 10-4. #15 RCC's overall record now stands at 16-13, while their OEC record sits at 4-10.

The Tigers dropped three runs on the Hornets in the top of the first on a double down the left line scoring Sean Smith and Michael Darr. Then a balk brought Zach Grande home.

RCC added to their lead in the third when Brody Weis knocked in Darr on a hit that got through the left side.

Trailing 4-0, David Miranda got it started for the Hornets in the fourth by getting on base on bloop-shot to right-center field. Soon after, he was knocked in by Brett Halasz on a hard-hit ball up the middle. With the bases loaded, Justin Row came up to the plate and blasted a grand slam over the left field ivy. With a 5-4 lead, Miranda came up again ripping a shot to the right side scoring Laine Huffman. By the inning's end the Hornets led 6-4.

FC went up by as much as 10-4, until Riverside made their run in the seventh inning scoring three runs making it a game. Thankfully, the Hornet pitching remained strong holding off the Tiger advance.

Dylan DeChavez (2-0) earned his second win on season going 3.2 innings giving up only 2 hits, 2 earned runs, with 2 K's. Starting pitcher Anthony Parente (4-0) took the no decision while feeling a bit under the weather on the mound. Reliever Chris Sanchez (1-0) earned his first save of the season throwing 3 innings with 2 hits allowed, 1 earned run, and 4 K's.

Up Next: The Hornets head back to Riverside City College to wrap up the three-game OEC series on Saturday, April 16th. The first pitch goes out at noon.
