BASEBALL: FC HANDLES IVC

The Hornets took the field against Irvine Valley College on Tuesday beating the Lasers 10-6 in an Orange Empire Conference home-game.

The Lasers struck first getting one across when Clint Jack hit into a double play allowing Dillon Millar to score from third base.

When it was their turn in the bottom of the first, Fullerton took a 2-1 lead on a hit to center by Laine Huffman scoring Joey Parente. David Miranda knocked one through the right side bringing Huffman home for the second run. 

In the second, the Hornets exploded for four runs taking a 6-1 lead. Joey Parente singled to left field scoring Andrew Piraino, Huffman hit a line drive to right field scoring Parente, Shane Carrier hit a liner to right field scoring Row, and a throwing error gave Miranda first while Huffman crossed home.

IVC cut the Fullerton lead in half (6-3) on a two-run double by Jordan Gillerman that brought in Cole Joy and Kyle Golden in the fifth.

FC's Josh Balbuena hit an absolute bomb in the bottom of the fifth sending the ball well over 405 feet over the center field ivy for a solo home run.

Shane Carrier followed Balbuena in the sixth crushing the ball over left-center for a two-run homer knocking in Justin Row.

The Hornets got another one across the plate on a wild pitch giving Piraino the chance to score in the seventh. IVC 3, FC 10. 

The Lasers dropped three runs on Fullerton in the eighth (10-6). Weston Ellis hit a two-run double and then he came home when Branden Williams flied out to center field.

Randall Ortiz (6-2) got the start today going 8 innings with 10 hits against, 6 earned runs, and 9 strike outs. RP Chris Sanchez came in for the ninth inning with a 1-2-3 finish.
