HORNETS TAP-OUT GOLDEN WEST

Playing no games last week, the FC baseball team got back on Hornet Field Tuesday and defeated Golden West 8-4.

It was a good win for Fullerton College that featured 2 home runs (Tank Espalin , Isaiah Marquez) that put the team at .500 with an overall record of 16-16. The Rustler loss bumps them to 18-14 overall. Both teams sit at 4-9 in the Orange Empire Conference standings.

GWC took an early advantage scoring a run in the top of the first. Ayden Garcia popped a single to right center scoring Nathan Beckley.

It didn't take long for the Hornets to retaliate scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first when Tank Espalin crushed a two-run homer over right field scoring Niko Santamaria.

The Rustlers tied the game up 2-2 in the second thanks to Rocco Caballero's double to left center plating Beckley.

FC answered back in the bottom of the third taking a 3-2 lead on a single up the middle by Isaiah Marquez that gave Britton Beeson the chance to come home from second.

Tank Espalin struck again in the fourth, ripping a single to right center scoring Jimmy Blumberg. Beeson added another run doubling to left center scoring Espalin.

Up 5-2 heading into the sixth, the Hornets added three more runs. With two on, Isaiah Marquez blasted a home run into left field net plating Elie Kligman, Espalin, and himself.

Golden West did its best to dig out of the hole with two runs in the eighth inning, but FC relief pitcher Deven Beasley closed the door. He tossed 2 innings, had 2 runs against, 3 hits, no walks and 2 K's.

Matt Romero (5-2) got the start on the bump today earning the win in 7 innings. He had 11 hits against, 2 earned runs, and 2 walks.

Up Next: The Hornets (16-16 overall, 4-9 OEC) will play game two of the three-game series at Golden West College on Thursday, April 13th at 2:00 pm.
