HORNETS BATTLE IT OUT WITH GLENDALE

In a two-game series with Glendale College, the Hornets fought hard but came up short against Glendale College 11-9 and 3-2.

In the first game held at Glendale Thursday night, FC took a 3-0 advantage in the third inning when Trevor Schmidt cranked a double to deep right field scoring three runners in Ryan Kirk, Landon Runge, and Andrew Pyle.

The Vaqueros answered back with four runs in the bottom of the third on a couple of hits and then dropped another run in the fourth to pull ahead 5-3. 

In the fifth, the Hornets made it 5-4 thanks to a Trevor Schmidt triple to right that brought in Britton Beeson.

Glendale responded in the bottom of the fifth with a double by Gabe Juarez, who knocked in two runners that put the Vaqs up 7-4.

FC got hot in the seventh scoring five runs taking a 9-7 lead. Trevor Schmidt struck again hitting a single that scored Britton Beeson. Schmidt eventually scored on a wild pitch, and  Landon Runge was hit by pitch with the bases loaded plating Dylan Anderson. Ryan Kirk soon ripped a single scoring two Pyle and Noe Romero.

The Vaqueros would not go away as they rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up 7-7. It was Ethan Kearney's triple that did the damage scoring two Glendale runners.

Heading into the ninth with the scored knotted up at 9 apiece, the Vaquero's Alex Dolan sealed the game with a two-run homer to walk it off.

In the second game held at Fullerton on Friday, the Hornets led it 2-0 after scoring a run in the first and second innings. Trevor Schmidt led it off with a nice double to center that brought in Ryan Kirk. In the second, Noah Rodriguez knocked down the SAC bunt giving Dylan Anderson the chance to score from third.

Glendale got a run back in the sixth when Alex Dolan hit s SAC fly that allowed Ethan Kearney to go home.

Still chipping ahead, the Vaqueros snuck in another run in the seventh on a SAC fly by Pena scoring Jackson Benattar.

The Vaqs scored the final run of the game when Ethan Kearney reached on a fielder's choice giving Sam Grunberg the opportunity to cross home plate.

FC starter Vincent Segovia threw a very strong game going 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and had no walks. He had only one earned run against. Despite taking the loss, Troon Eakin also had a good outing throwing 2 innings with no earned runs, had 2 strikeouts, and no walks.

Up Next: The Hornets (3-4 overall) will host another one this Saturday, February 10th when Moorpark College comes to town. The first pitch goes out at 12:00 pm.
