RECORDS BROKE IN HIGH SCORING VICTORY

The Hornets racked up the runs at home Saturday afternoon beating Moorpark College 27-7.

It was the highest scoring output not only this season but in the last 28. The 27 runs mark the second most runs ever scored in a game by the Hornets. The number one spot belongs to Coach Nick Fuscardo's 1996 Fullerton team that put up 30 runs against Saddleback on February 24th- a 30-9 road-victory.

Scoring a lot of runs meant having a lot of hits and the Hornets peppered the field with 21 total. The record is 28 set by three teams: 1984 vs. Scottsdale, 1985 vs. Compton, and 2022 vs. Bakersfield.

With the game tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second, first-year 1B Trevor Schmidt broke the game open with a grand slam that sailed over the right field ivy. In his next At Bat in the third, he did it again crushing another grand slam; this time over left field. He added one more RBI in the sixth inning on a triple that scored Britton Beeson. In all, he accumulated 9 RBI for a team record for most in a game. The previous record was 8 held by Poncho Ruiz in 1996 and FC Hall of Famer Ron Johnson in 1976. Schmidt went 4-6 at the plate and came across the plate three times.

Jacob Larson hit a three-run shot over left in the third. He was 2-4 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and 4 RBI. Other that had a multi-hit game were Diego Franco (3/1 run/2 RBI), Rudy Gonzales (2/2 runs), Landon Runge (2/3 runs), and Dillon Anderson (2/2 runs/2 RBI).

On the mound, Ethan Moran got the start going 3.2 innings with 4 hits, 4 walks, and 3 K's. Jared Sawyer (1-0) stepped in for the win throwing 1.1 innings with only a hit against and no runs. Andrew Carren tossed a hitless final inning to seal the Fullerton win.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-4 overall) play at home again this Wednesday, February 14th when Long Beach City comes to the FC campus. Game time is at 12:00 pm. This game was originally scheduled for Feb. 17th (Saturday), however with the impending weekend rain moved it up.
