THREE HOME RUNS ON THE ROAD LIFTS FULLERTON PAST CYPRESS

The Hornets opened a three-game series at conference-rival Cypress College on Tuesday and beat the Chargers 8-4.

It was a good win for the Hornets, who came off a 5-4 loss at Golden West College on Saturday dropping the Orange Empire Conference series 2-1. Fullerton's win over Cypress put the team at 14-8 overall and 2-2 in the OEC, while the Chargers sit at 14-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

The Hornets found themselves in a 4-1 hole by the top of the fifth, but the game turned on a dime when Trevor Schmidt hammered his 9th home run on the season scoring two other runners in Noah Rodriguez and Diego FrancoRudy Gonzales then stepped up with a hard triple to right field scoring Ryan Kirk. Gonzalez eventually came home after taking advantage of a wild pitch. 

Up 6-4 heading into the sixth, FC added two more runs on a two-run shot by Britton Beeson, who locked down his 6th homer of the season.

Matt Romero (2-1) got the start and the win for Fullerton throwing 5 innings with 8 hits against, 4 earned runs, had 4 Ks, and a walk. Mike DeHaro came into toss 2 scoreless innings with no hits, no walks, and a strikeout. Andrew Carren also threw 2 scoreless innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts.

At the plate for FC, Diego Franco was 2-4 with a walk, a home run (3rd inning), had 2 runs, and 1 RBI. Trevor Schmidt was 2-5 with a home run, a double, had 1 run, and 3 RBI. Britton Beeson was 1-5 and had a home run with 2 RBI.
