MEN'S BASKETBALL: ROUND THREE PREVIEW

On Saturday night at 7:00 pm, No. 1 seeded Fullerton College will welcome No. 7 Southwestern College to the Hornets Nest for a chance to go to the CCCAA State Tournament.

The Jaguars finished the regular season as the Pacific Coast Conference Champions with an undefeated 10-0 record. Overall, Southwestern has a record of 25-4 after beating No. 9 San Bernardino Valley College 92-82 in the second round of the Southern California Regionals last Saturday. Averaging 84.2 points a game, SWC is a skilled shooting team that can hurt their opponents on the outside shooting 39.4% from beyond the arc. A pair of freshman lead the team in scoring in Marquavian Stephens (18.2 ppg) and Nathaniel Pearson (15 ppg.). Sophomore Jose Serrano averages 13.7 points with 6.9 rebounds, and freshman Jordan Cooke is scoring 10.3 points while leading the team in rebounds at 7.7. Freshman Niko Paranada averages 10.1 ppg. As a team, the Jaguars are shooting 47.2%.

As the Orange Empire Conference Champs (10-2), Fullerton College comes into the game ranked as the No. 1 seed for Southern California and is ranked No. 2 in the final state poll by the CCCMBCA (26-3 overall record). The Hornets have a deep bench filled with talented players. Orange Empire Conference MVP Lance Coleman II leads the team in scoring (19.6 ppg) and is second in rebounding (7.4). OEC Defensive Player of the Year, Ronne Readus averages 1.5 blocks, 11.5 rebounds, and 12.7 points. Outside threat Jailen Moore averages 11.7 ppg and shot-creator Rodrick McCobb averages 9.4 ppg. with 4.3 rpg. Omajae Smith has been solid for FC with 7.4 ppg, and big man Vaj Rice is averaging 6 ppg with 3.6 rpg. Point man Dylan Banks can run the floor opening shots up for his teammates.

The last time these two teams played was back on November 29th of 2013 at the Palomar College Tournament. Southwestern won the game 62-58.
