DOWNING THE DONS

DOWNING THE DONS

The Hornet men's basketball team opened the Orange Empire Conference with a big 86-56 win at Santa Ana College on Wednesday night.

Fullerton had its hands full with Santa Ana to open the game as the Dons matched the Hornets shot for shot. By the 6-minute mark, Kobe Newton drained a three-pointer putting FC up 20-13. Turovers (10 total in the first half), helped the Dons close the gap. With just under 2 minutes left, Nathan McGee-Caldwell drained a three getting SAC within a point of FC at 29-28. RJ Johnson soon followed that up with a dunk and Gaven Ramirez slashed in for a layup to wrap up a troubling first half with a narrow 33-27 lead.

The Hornets shook off the first-half haze in the second going on a 28-8 run that was set off by Newton's 15 points. Fullerton did not relent pushing its lead to 38 (78-40) on a layin by Collin Reed with 5 minutes left in the game. Cutting down on their turnovers (3), while shooting 56.2% from the floor to the Don's 29.6%, gave the Hornets their first OEC win.

Kobe Newton totaled 24 points and Gaven Ramirez scored 13 with 8 rebounds. Chazz Hutchison chipped in 10 points and added 7 boards, while Tristan Williams and RJ Johnson put up 8 points each.

Up Next: Fullerton (11-1 overall, 1-0 OEC) will host Irvine Valley College this Friday, December 17th at 5:00 pm. Come on out and support the team! Can't make the game? Watch it live here!
