FC OPENS CONFERENCE WITH A DUB!

The Hornets welcomed Golden West College to their field on Tuesday for the Orange Empire Conference opener and beat the Rustlers 9-4.

Fullerton has been on a tear the last couple of weeks winning seven straight games, including wins against ranked teams in No. 3 Palomar, No. 14 Long Beach City, and No. 17 Cerritos.

Golden West scored the first run of the game in the top of the third on a Hornet throwing error. 

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the Hornets rebounded well with two runs thanks to Veronica Moore's double to left center that brought in Haley Garcia and Jordan Elias.

The Rustlers tied it up in the fifth when Desyree Arizmendi hit a single plating Candice DeMayo.

FC took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Veronica Moore struck again with a nice single that traveled through the left side scoring Jordan Elias.

The Hornets took the game over in the sixth racking up six runs to go up 9-2. Milene Mendoza came up hammering a triple to right center scoring Miranda Pozos. Mendoza then came across a few pitches later on a wild pitch. Veronica Moore hit a SAC fly to center scoring Angelina GranadoJordan Elias came across on a wild pitch and Caitlyn Stear got one through the left side allowing Coco Siono and Haley Garcia to cross home plate.

Golden West eeked out two more runs before the walls closed in for the seventh inning on a Hornet error.

Macy Brandl got the nod in the circle throwing 4.2 with 5 hits against and 2 earned runs. She had 3 walks and 4 Ks. Allyson Fuentes (3-1) earned the win going 2.1 innings with 2 hits against, no earned runs, had 1 walk, and 2 Ks.  

Up Next: The Hornets (6-2, 1-0) will play game two of the three game series with Golden West in Huntington Beach on Thursday, March 7th at 3:00 pm.
