WINNING ON SOPHOMORE NIGHT

WINNING ON SOPHOMORE NIGHT

It was Sophomore Night for the Hornets on Thursday, and the team came out inspired pulling off a 75-56 victory over visiting Santa Ana College.

Before the game, Head Coach Marcia Foster honored her sophomore players Destiny Goodloe, Janelle Ramos, and Celise Moreno for their dedication and hard work on and off the court the past couple of years.

Fullerton opened up with a 7-3 lead, and never let up winning each of the four quarters.

The first quarter was relatively close with the Hornets averaging a three-point lead. As soon as FC began to pull away, the Dons would hit a 3-pointer. For the game, they shot 42.5% to Fullerton's 33.3%.

The Hornets made their move to separate from Santa Ana late in the second quarter. With FC up 33-30 with 2 minutes left in the half, the Hornets went on a 4-0 mini-run grabbing a 7-point lead by the 30-second mark. The Don's Nicole Robles drilled a deep 3-pointer from the corner with 2 seconds left. By the time both teams hit their respective locker rooms, Fullerton held a 37-33 advantage.

FC took charge in the opening minutes of the third quarter pushing its lead to 47-37 on a Maddie Snyder jump shot. Janelle Ramos' tip-in by the 1:57 mark made it a healthy 53-40 Hornet lead. By the quarter's end, Fullerton owned a 54-44 edge.

The fourth quarter was all Hornets as they pushed on with their largest lead of the game of 23 (75-52) with a minute left in regulation to move for the win.

Janelle Ramos finished off her FC career with a huge game leading all scorers with 22 points and 19 rebounds for the double-double. She also had 2 blocks. Bri Landeros scored 13 points and Maddie Snyder dropped in 10. Amanda Vasquez contributed 9 points, while Destiny Goodloe put up 7 with 9 rebounds, and 11 assists nearly achieving the triple-double.

It was a season of ups and downs for the FC women's basketball team, who suffered through injuries and COVID-19 protocol issues. Through it all, the short-staffed team never gave up playing hard each and every game. Winning the final game of the season shows the true fighting spirit of the program as bigger and better things are on the horizon.
