FALLING SHORT VS. DONS

FALLING SHORT VS. DONS

The FC women's basketball team took on a home-loss Wednesday night falling to Santa Ana College 58-49.

In the midst of a seven-game losing streak, Fullerton is now 1-8 in the Orange Empire Conference, while Santa Ana bumps up to 4-6 in the OEC standings. The Hornets and Dons last played a couple of weeks ago (January 13th) with Fullerton falling in a close one 67-61.

The Hornets fell behind early as the Dons took an 11-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, FC was in a ten-point hole at 24-14.

Shooting 20% from the floor hurt Fullerton's chances in the third quarter as Santa Ana pushed ahead for its largest lead of 24 at the six-minute mark (38-14).

Down 42-27 by the start of the fourth quarter, the Hornets came to life going on a 20-10 run that brought them within five points (52-47) of the Dons with just 41 second left in regulation. Strapped for time and turning the ball over, hurt FC's chances of a comeback as the team fell short.

Toni Ballestero was the team scoring leader with 13 points and added 4 rebounds on the night. Bri Landeros and Angela Zendejas both put up 10 points each. Landeros had 8 rebounds, while Zendejas earned a double-double bringing down 10 rebounds.

Up Next: The Hornets (10-15 overall, 1-8 OEC) will play another one at home this Friday, February 10th when Riverside City College comes to town. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
