WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: THE OEC INVITE

The Hornet Track and Field team traveled to a Riverside City College on Friday to compete in the Orange Empire Conference Invitational.

This was a meet for all athletes to compete amongst the conference schools and work on establishing a mark in their events, and the ladies finished 4th out of 6 teams with 56 points.

Freshman Idaly Gonzalez ran 13.95 in the 100-meter and 28.70 in the 200-meter race.

Krista Correa had her first college 400-meter hurdle race and did well with a finish of 1:20.27.

"Krista will get more comfortable the more she runs this event, and I expect her times will drop throughout the season", said Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.

Kim Estrada-Rodriguez ran the 1500-meters in 5:42.91 and Lorena Tapia-Ceballos ran her first college race in 6:06.11.

Diana Vasquez and Kim Estrada-Rodriguez were in the 800-meters running close together at 2:45.04 and 2:45.70. Lorena Tapia-Ceballos was six seconds behind her teammates with Diana Muneton right behind her.

The ladies finished out the track events running the 1600-meter relay from Krista Correa, Kim Estrada Rodriguez, Idaly Gonzalez and Diana Vasquez for third place.

Chelsie Davila made her first appearance for the season in the long jump and picked up where she left off last season with a 14' 11 1/4" effort for second place.

Sydney Devilla had personal records in the hammer at 108' 0" and the javelin at 78'4". Angellee Vernon had PR's in the javelin at 83'9" and finally through the discus with a toss of 100' 5".

Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this week but will be back in action on March 14th when they compete at the Occidental College Carnival.
