THE RON ALLICE OPEN NETS A 2ND PLACE FINISH

Earning 79 total team points, the Hornets finished second overall at the Ron Allice Open last Friday. The team is showing that its off-season training has prepared them very well for a successful season ahead.

The day started in the field events with Layla Thornton taking second place in the shot put (33' .5"). Madyson Rodriquez took 6th, while Leah Nunez placed 7th overall. The javelin landed Leah Nunez a big personal record (PR) over 20 feet. She took 4th with a throw of 79' 9. Teammate Madyson Rodriquez was just behind Leah with a 75' 0" effort placing 6th. Layla Thornton was 7th overall for her javelin event. 

On the track side, Sophia Nagao ran within her PR from last year in the 100M dash with a time of 13.02 for a 4th place finish. Keiki Iuli was in the same heat with a 13.84 finish for 8th place. Keiki Iuli had her first triple-jump competition of her college season that gave her a second place with a jump of 30' 7".

Hailey Johnson opened her 200M dash with a personal record of 27.45 winning her heat and placing second overall. Angelyn Valdovinos claimed 3rd in the 400M opening her season with a 1:09.46 with Kiya Danilo trailing her from behind for 4th place with a 1:10.57 effort.

Haily Roberts claimed 2nd place in both of her races. It was the first time she has ever ran a 1500M race and she finished strong with a time of 6:04.30. Roberts came back later to run a training 800M run with a time of 2:58.56.

The grand finale of the meet had the Hornets coming from behind and crossed the line for a first-place finish in the 1600-meter relay (Nagao, Valdovinos, Danilo, Johnson) opening up their season with a time of 4:25.21 over Long Beach City College 4:25.38.
