OEC INVITE - 3RD PLACE FINISH

Hosted by Riverside City College, the OEC Invite posted seven personal records for the Hornets last Friday afternoon.

With great weather conditions, the Hornets finished in third place overall with 48 points.

The day started off on the track with an outstanding performance in the 400 meter relay team of  Sophia Nagao, Hailey Johnson, Keiki Iuli and Sofia Gonzalez won it in 52.36 seconds. This was the first time running the event this season as the team shows great promise with faster times ahead. Having the win behind them set the tone for more great things to happen throughout the day.

Sophia Nagao finished in third place with her best time of the year in the 100 meters dashing 12.98 to the finish line. Hailey Johnson was confident that her race was going to be a success after the great performance in the short relay. She came in third place for the 200-meter dash and had her best performance of the young season with a finish of 26.90.  Running her first 400-meter race at the college level, Sofia Gonzalez crossed the finish line with a fourth place finish at 1:04.53. Angelyn Valdovinos ran close to her best time in the same race 1:09.65 for seventh place. Michelle Garcia had a training 800 meter run for her season opener and college performance.

In the field, four personal records were achieved. Layla Thornton had her best throw of the season in the discus at 108' 5" (fifth place) with Leah Nunez having her PR with a 75'0" effort.  Madyson Rodriquez equaled her PR from last year with a good 83' 4" toss. Layla Thornton caught the same enthusiasm and heaved the hammer for her best of 75'5". Rounding out the javelin was Madyson Rodriquez placing fourth with Leah Nunez right behind for a fifth-place finish.

In the sand box was Keiki Iuli achieving her best effort in the long jump with a 14' 10.75" for a sixth-place finish.
