HORNETS STAVE OFF RUSTLERS

In an Orange Empire Conference match, Fullerton maintained its cool on the road holding off a surging Golden West squad 11-10.

It has not been the Hornets best start to the 2023 season with an overall record of 2-4, however this young FC team is putting in the work and getting better with each passing day. 

Heading into this game, Golden West was 7-3 overall losing only to the No. 1 team in the state in Santa Barbara City (twice) and No. 2 Riverside City. 

Both the Rustlers and the Hornets opened the game with two goals apiece, and then pushed on in the second quarter matching each other with 4. By halftime it was all tied up at 6-6.

FC controlled the third quarter taking a 10-6 lead on goals by Alexandra HaluskaElyse Weske, Kaylee Rojas, and Moncerath Maldonado. GWC fought back to score one goal before the start of the fourth quarter.

Kayla Arias welcomed the fourth with a goal giving the Hornets an 11-7 lead, but Golden West fought back with three straight goals to get within one of Fullerton. With time winding down, the FC defense kept it together holding off the Rustlers for the victory.

FC goalie Candace Tezak had 5 saves in four quarters of play.

Kayla Arias and Kaylee Rojas led the way for FC with 3 goals each, while Alexandra Haluska and Elyse Weske both scored 2 goals apiece.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-4 overall, 1-1 OEC) will be playing in the Mt. San Antonino College Tournament September 22-23. They will open against Palomar this Friday at 9:30 am.
