HORNETS TAKE HOME OEC SUPREMACY AWARD

HORNETS TAKE HOME OEC SUPREMACY AWARD

For the first time ever, the Hornets have won the T. Mark Johnson Supremacy Award topping the rest of the Orange Empire Conference based on points earned on conference finishes.

With the abrupt end to spring sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OEC spring sports were not calculated. With the completion of fall and winter sports, that left Fullerton on top for the award. Mind you, this is an award that has been dominated by Orange Coast College since the inception of the conference in 1986. Only Saddleback College (1995-96, 1996-97), Riverside City (1997-98, 1999, 2000, 2010-11) and now Fullerton (2019-20) have won the award over the Pirates.

OEC Commissioner John Keever did not want to vacate the award because of COVID-19 and felt that the award should continue its tradition announcing Fullerton as the recipient.

The Hornets had a very strong fall and winter winning two conference titles finishing with 72 points. Saddleback followed with 61 points, while Riverside City totaled 60.5, Orange Coast 58, Golden West 47.5, Cypress 45, Santa Ana 44.5, Santiago Canyon 33, and Irvine Valley 28.5.

The scores are based on points earned for the conference finishes, with 10 points for first place, eight points for second place, seven for third place, and so on.

Fullerton has a very successful fall semester in the Orange Empire Conference with women's water polo taking the OEC title. The team then went on to win the state championship against OEC rival Riverside City. Men's soccer won their second consecutive OEC title. The rest of the FC fall and winter sports programs were also very competitive boosting the strong OEC Supremacy Award finish.
