BASEBALL: HORNETS PLAY WELL DURING A 3-GAME HOMESTAND

In their three-game home stand that began on Thursday, the Hornets knocked off Bakersfield College 21-4, fell to Mt San Antonio 11-4, and shutout San Diego Mesa 20-0.

Against Bakersfield, Fullerton took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when CF Joey Parente hit a stand-up triple to right center field. Thomas Delgadillo hit one deep to center for a SAC fly bringing Parente home.

The real fireworks began in the third for the Hornets as they scored a whopping 11 runs breaking the game open relatively early. CF Joey Parente had a big day going 4 for 5 at the plate with 2 triples, 2 RBI, and 4 runs. In all Fullerton had 21 hits to the Renegades 9.

Pitcher Jordan Wisner took the win putting in 5 innings of work with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

The second game on the docket had FC taking on Mount San Antonio on Hornet Field. The Hornet bats were not as potent this time around as they recorded 8 hits to the Mounties' 10. 

In the first, Fullerton scored the game's first run on a shot up the middle by Tommy Degadillo that brought Joey Parente in from second base.

Mt. SAC tied it up 1-1 in the second on a 4-3 putout by Ruben Castaneda that allowed Tyrus Lineberger to come in from third base.

The Hornets went up 2-1 in the second on a SAC Fly to center field by Andrew Aguilar that scored Grant Woodward from third.

The Mounties took over the lead for good in the fifth scoring two runs. With the bases loaded, Quinn Cotter was hit by a pitch, which forced Ruben Castaneda across home plate. Jeff Pellegrino also scored on a SAC fly to center by Conner Shepherd.

After adding two more runs in the seventh, Mount San Antonio sealed the game in the eighth scoring five more runs to win 11-4.

On Saturday, the Hornets hosted San Diego Mesa and pulled themselves back into the win column with an 8-2 victory over the Olympians. 

Joey Parente got the ball rolling for Fullerton with a leadoff single in the first ripping a hard shot to the left side. He was soon knocked in by Austin Case who knocked the ball to the left center ivy for a head-first triple. FC went up 2-0 on a 6-3 putout by Thomas Delgadillo that gave Case the opportunity to score.

The Hornets added another in the fourth on a hit by Andrew Aguilar bringing in Daniel Tuerffs.

FC's starting pitcher Ryon Martinez was throwing a no-hitter until the fifth when Lewis Butler broke it up with a shot up the middle.

In the bottom fifth, Grant Woodward blasted a two-run shot over the right field ivy scoring Thomas Delgadillo. The Hornets led 5-0.

In the sixth, Fullerton blew the game open scoring 7 runs to go up 12-0. The Hornets took advantage of bases loaded walking in a couple of runs. Daniel Tuerffs also chipped in hitting a two-run double scoring Roberto Jaime and Grant Woodward.

FC added three more runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth to seal the game at 20-0. The finish nearly tied a school record for largest margin of victory (22 runs - 1988 vs DeAnza and 1983 vs Compton).

Ryon Martinez grabbed the win for Fullerton going seven strong innings tossing a one-hitter. He also had 3 K's and 3 walks.

FC was supposed to play a fourth game at home on Sunday against Palomar, but it was rained out. Up Next: The Hornets (10-4 overall) will play at Moorpark tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
