BASEBALL: GAUCHOS TAKE THE SERIES FROM FC

The Hornets hosted Saddleback College on Friday afternoon wrapping up the Orange Empire Conference season series and fell to the Gauchos 5-1 losing the series two games to one.

The loss gives Fullerton an overall record of 12-13 overall and 2-7 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Saddleback win bumps them up to 16-9 overall and 4-5 in the OEC.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Saddleback scored the first run of the game. Brett Auerbach knocked one to right center field that brought in Spencer Heinsius, which was a close call at the plate with the ball racing in from center field.

The Gauchos dropped three on FC in the sixth inning to go up 4-0. With the bases loaded, Spencer Heinsius was hit by pitch that brought in Ulumano Farm. Jordan Fitzgerald singled to center field scoring Brett O'Toole. Auerbach hit a SAC fly to center field scoring Zack Bowman.

Saddleback put one more run on the board in the seventh. Once again, the bases were loaded and Bowman produced a walk bringing in Erik Voller.

In the bottom of the seventh, Fullerton scored their lone run. With bases loaded and one out, Todd Yost came up to bat hitting a SAC fly to center scoring Jesse Hayes from third.

It was not a very good day at the plate for Fullerton as they could only muster two hits.

Up Next: The Hornets (12-13 overall, 2-7 OEC) will try and pick it back up when they host Santa Ana College this Tuesday, March 28th for game two of the three-game OEC series. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
