SLUGFEST-WIN OVER PALOMAR

The Hornets slugged it out with Palomar College on Saturday and won it in comeback fashion 12-11.

Two offensive powerhouses squeezed in a game between rain storms, and they did not disappoint as both the Comets and Hornets totaled 11 hits each while scoring a total of 23 runs.

Down 10-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Fullerton scored two runs thanks to home run blast by Ryan Kirk. It was his second of the day as he crushed a solo shot in the fifth. Diego Franco added a third run minutes later scoring on a wild pitch from third.

The Comets made it 11-6 in the eighth after Makana Olaso worked the count for a walk with the bases loaded.

Hornet magic happened in the bottom of the eighth as the Fullerton offense exploded for six runs to pull ahead for good. Andrew Pyle came up ripping a single to left field that scored Ben Carter. With the bases loaded, Ryan Kirk was hit by a pitch plating Noah Rodriguez. Soon after, Diego Franco walked with the bases still juiced scoring Andrew Pyle. Tying the game up, Britton Beeson lined a double to center field allowing Kirk and Landon Runge to go home. FC went up 12-11 when Dillon Anderson hit into a fielder's choice giving Franco the opportunity to score.

Ryan Franson recorded the final out locking down his second save of the season. Mike DeHaro was credited with the win going an inning with not hits, no earned runs, 2 walks, and a strikeout. Vincent Segovia got the starting nod throwing 5 innings with 6 hits, 3 earned runs, had a walk, and 4 K's.

Up Next: The Hornets (3-2 overall) will have to wait it out until the rain subsides to see when and where they will play next. If the sun breaks through the clouds and dries Hornet Field in time, Fullerton might play at home this Friday, February 9th against Glendale College at 1:00 pm.
