ONE DOOR CLOSES, ANOTHER ONE OPENS

The Hornets went down to Santa Ana College on Friday and fell in a close one to the Dons 6-4 to end the regular season.

Fullerton won the first contest of the three-game Orange Empire Conference series 14-5 at Santa Ana on Tuesday, however the Dons went on to win the next game 8-7 on Thursday.

Although the regular season is over, the high-powered Hornet baseball squad will be playing in the post-season. The seeding meeting for the SoCal Regionbals will be happening this weekend so stay tuned.

For Friday's game, Santa Ana took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Michael Rocha's double down the left line that scored two runners in Jimmy DeAnda and Carson Case.

The Hornets tied the game up 2-2 in the fifth thanks to Jacob Larson's two-run homer, but the Dons soon answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rocha hit a SAC fly giving Thomas Williams the chance to cross home plate. Matthew Dobson then hit a two-run homer out of Don Sneddon Field giving the team a 5-2 lead.

In the seventh, Santa Ana added one more run from Connor Dietsch's double to right center that plated Jake Long.

Fullerton got a couple of runs back in the eighth and ninth innings but ultimately came up short. Rudy Gonzales singled through the right-side scoring Ryan Kirk, and in the final inning Kirk ripped a double to left allowing Larson to go home.

Vincent Segovia (4-2) got the start for FC throwing 4 innings with 4 hits, 4 earned runs, had 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Jared Sawyer tossed 1.1 innings with 3 hits, 1 earned run, had 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Andrew Carren went 1.2 innings with 2 hits, 1 earned run, had no walks, and 2 Ks. Ryan Franson threw an inning with 1 hit against.

Up Next - The 3C2A SoCal Regionals: The No. 9 seed Hornets (23-17 overall) will host No. 16 Pasadena City College (23-16 overall) for a best-of-three series beginning this Friday, May 3rd at 2:00 pm. Game 2 will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4th. If needed, Game 3 will be played 40 minutes after Game 2. Click here to view the bracket.
