HORNETS OVER GRIFFINS

HORNETS OVER GRIFFINS: The FC football team took a trip south to Grossmont College on Saturday afternoon and brought down the Griffins in another high scoring affair 38-31.

Grossmont's Gary intercepted FC QB Conor Bednarski and returned it 43 yards for the score of the game at 14:08 in the 1st Quarter.

Fullerton quickly answered back on the next series when RB Ryan Byrd took the rock 75 yards for a touchdown to even the score at 7 a piece.

On a 4th and 1, from the Grossmont 26, Hornet WR Eli Pleasant scored on a pass from Bednarski giving FC a 14-7 lead with 7:48 left in the 1st Quarter. 

Griffin QB Chris Bonner found WR Treyo Jerrells on a 13 yard screen pass for a touchdown to tie is up at 14 with 6:04 left in the 1st Quarter.

Fullerton WR Ryan Longoria scored on a 46 yard TD pass from QB Jose Escobar at 12:08 in the 2nd Quarter to regain the lead at 21-14.  Then WR Collin Floyd added to the lead at 7:13 in the 2nd Quarter on a 22 yard pass by Bednarski giving the Hornets some cushion at 28-14.

Grossmont still had plenty of gas in the tank before the end of the half scoring on a 26 yard TD run by RB E'lon Spight with 2:23 left in the half. The Griffins continued to drive on Fullerton on their next possession, until LB Simon Poti picked off a tipped Bonner pass taking it back 20 yards for a TD for a 35-21 half time lead.

FC Kicker Jesse Aguilar scored the first points of the second half (5:43 3Q) with a successful 53 yard field goal try adding to the lead 38-21. 

Grossmont still had some fight left as Bonner scored on a 3-yd keeper with 1:49 left in the 3rd Quarter (38-28).  Then Kicker Connor Derby hit a 36 yard field goal (8:30 4Q) chipping away at FC's lead 38-31.

The Fullerton Defense answered the call holding the Griffin Offense at bay earning the much-needed Southern Conference win. 

Byrd had his best game onthe season rushing for 236 yards on 27 carries with 1 TD.  Eli Pleasant had 4 catches for 59 yards and a TD.  

Up Next: The Hornets (4-4 overall, 3-1 in the Southern Conference) will host their final game of the season at Fullerton District Stadium when Orange Coast College comes to town on November 3rd. It will be Fullerton College's homecoming game so come on out and cheer for your Hornets! Kickoff will be at 6:00 pm.
