SOLID SEASON OPENER

SOLID SEASON OPENER: The Hornets hosted Long Beach City College at Fullerton Field on Saturday night winning their season opener 52-21.

FC struck first on the ground on a pretty 8-yard run by RB Ryan Byrd (Freshman/Lakeside HS) in the 1st quarter with 7:43 on the clock. The Hornets hit paydirt again, in the air this time, on a 29-yard strike from QB Conor Bednarski (Sophomore/South Pasadena HS) with 2:34 left in the 1st quarter. With the score 14-0, Fullerton struck again by way of the special teams unit. With 40 seconds left in the 1st, Alex Bernstein (Freshman/Yorba Linda HS) took a punt return to the Viking endzone for 88-yards breaking a school record in the process. The former record was held by Frank Munoz who had an 85-yard return in 1947 against Cal Poly Pomona.

In the 2nd quarter Long Beach scored their first TD on a 5-yard pass from Nick Pope to Lawrence Allen at the 10:32 mark. FC's Alex Bernstein scored his second TD on the night on a 4 yard run (9:18). Eli Pleasant went score his second TD on the night on a nice 30-yard pass from Conor Bednarski (6:44). LBCC scored again through the air on a 19-yard pass from QB Casey Nielson to WR Dominique Williams (1:48).

In the 3rd quarter, FC's Jesse Aguilar (Sophomore/Anaheim HS) hit a 48-yard field goal (10:55). Ryan Byrd went on to score his third TD of the night on a 1-yard punch-in (5:21).

The Vikings opened up the 4th quarter scoring on a 5-yard pass courtesy of Nielson to Davis (8:27). Then the Hornets wrapped up their final TD on a 21-yard grab by Alex Bernstein (his second TD) by QB Jose Escobar (Freshman/John Glen HS).

Up Next: The Hornets (1-0) will host Cerritos College this Saturday, September 8th at Fullerton Stadium. Game time is at 1:00 pm.
