FOOTBALL: HORNETS RUN WILD ON GRIFFINS

The Fullerton College football team traveled south to Grossmont College for a Southern Conference match-up outscoring the Griffins 44-20.

The FC win gives them an overall record of 5-3 and a conference record of 2-2, while the loss for Grossmont sets them back at 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Fullerton's run game was on point today totaling 268 yards with two running backs going over the century mark in Phillip Butler (131 yards and 2 TDs) and Anthony Wood (105 yards and 1 TD).

With the run game clicking on all cylinders, the passing game only netted 130 yards on 10 completions and 18 attempts between three different quarterbacks (Tanner Hodges, Colin Kearon, and James Dupree).

Grossmont did not have an answer for the Hornet offense as Fullerton went up 14-0 in the first half and then Fullerton broke loose in the second half scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 28-0.

The Griffins did not score until there was 36 seconds left in the third quarter. The Hornet defense held Grossmont to 129 yards rushing. Most of those yards came towards the end with the game well in hand.

Standout Players for Fullerton

RB Phillip Butler had 8 carries for 131 yards and 2 TDs.

RB Anthony Wood had 18 carries for 105 and a TD.

LB Thomas Cletcher had 3 sacks for 24 yard losses with 6 tackles on the day.

DL Tirrell Gilmore had 2 sacks for 14 yard losses with 6 tackles.

DB Deryck Fletcher led the Hornets in tackles with 8 with 1 forced fumble and an interception.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference) will host Saddleback College on Saturday, October 31st at Yorba Linda High's Nathan Shapell Stadium. Kickoff is at 12:30 pm.
