FOOTBALL: HORNETS GET IT DONE AT CERRITOS

The FC football team is now 2-0 after taking it to Cerritos College 31-19 on the road Saturday night.

Once again, QB Jordan Hoy commanded the Hornet offense in the air and on the ground throwing for 230 yards with a TD, and rushing for a game-high 126 yards (on 17 carries) for 2 TDs.

Fullerton got on the board first at the 9:05 mark in the first quarter on a 22-yard field goal by Jonathan Aguilar.

The Hornets made it 10-0 two minutes later on a 10-yard pass from Hoy to Asante Wilder who took the ball the distance 55 yards to the end zone.

The Falcons grabbed their first points with 3:58 left in the first quarter when QB Nick Mitchell hit WR Kishawn Holmes for a 47-yard touchdown. Cerritos later added three more points on a 17-yard field goal by Adrian Saldana to tie the game up at 10 apiece.

With 6:59 left in the first half, FC running back Gerald Hulett broke a few tackles scoring from the 5-yardline. A successful PAT by Aguilar gave the Hornets a 17-10 by halftime.

Fullerton entered the second half revved and ready to go as the offense put up 14 unanswered points in the third quarter giving them full control of the game at 31-10. Hoy darted through a host of Falcon defenders up the middle before breaking free for a 54-yard TD (13:51). Hoy struck again using his legs scoring from 5-yards out (6:57).

With the game out of reach, Cerritos scored in the beginning of the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run by Querale Hall.

The Falcons scored two on a safety when Hoy knowingly ran the ball backwards from his own 3-yardline out of the back of the end zone as a precautionary measure. The clock ran out for the Falcons on the ensuing kickoff giving the Hornets their second win on the season.

The Hornet defense was strong holding the Falcons to 133 yards in the air. Linebacker Justin Parcells led the team in tackles with 6. Jamal Scott followed up with 5 tackles. Xavier Chisholm, Tyler Stepney, Markus Lewis, Quentin Yontz, and Jose Bermejo each had 4 tackles on the night.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-0 overall) will have their home opener against College of the Canyons (2-0 overall) on Saturday, September 17th. Kickoff will be at 6:00 pm. Come on out and support your Hornets!
