FOOTBALL: HORNETS GET THE BEST OF THE GRIFFINS

Records were broken at Fullerton's homecoming game and the conference opener on Saturday as the #3 Hornets flew past #6 Grossmont College 79-18.

It was the largest margin of victory (61 points) by a Hornet football team since 1967 when Coach Hal Sherbeck's Hornets beat district rival Cypress College 68-8 (60 points).

The Hornets tied the 2013 record for most points scored in a game with 79. Strange enough, the 2013 record was also against Grossmont, a 79-44 win.

FC broke the record for most touchdowns in a game with 11. The previous record was 10 in 2013 against Grossmont and in 2009 against Moorpark.

Fullerton College kicker Jonathan Aguilar broke the school record for most PAT attempts in a game (11) and most successful PATs in a game with 11. The previous records were held by Jake Tyler against Moorpark in 2009 and Ian Boozer in 2013 verse Grossmont with 10. Aguilar's brother Jesse owns the school record for most successful field goals in a game with 5 in 2012.

The win keeps FC's undefeated record in tact at 6-0 and they now sit at 1-0 in the SCFA Southern Conference. The Griffin loss lands them at 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference.

The Hornets came out firing in the first quarter outscoring the Griffins 21-6. FC's first TD was a 7-yard run by Kentavious Thomas (12:12).

Grossmont retaliated in the next series scoring on a Nehemiah Brown run from 10 yards out. The PAT failed due to a bad snap allowing Fullerton smother the ball.

The FC offensive unit then went on a rampage scoring 35 unanswered points in the first half.

In the second half, Grossmont successfully got into the end zone on a 59-yard reception to Jabril Clewis from QB Spencer Moyer.

FC went on to score 30 more points in the third quarter breaking the Griffins back.

Hornet QB Jordan Hoy produced 5 touchdowns in the game taking one in on the ground and passing for 4. Tight End Christian Williams caught 2 TDs while DeAndre McNeal, Asante Wilder, and Jordan Huffman each caught a TD. Huffman's TD was thrown by Isaiah Jackson.

Defensively, Fullerton held the Griffins to a 107 yards on the ground. Deryck Fletcher was the team's leading tackler with 5 (1 assist/4 solo). FC had 3 picks on the day with one going back for six points from D'Angelo Ross. Ross also intercepted a two-point conversion attempt and took it to the house for two points.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-0, 1-0) will play a tough one on the road against Saddleback College on Saturday, October 22nd. Kickoff will be at 6:00 pm. All of the Hornet Nation should come out and support the team for this one, as this game will define the conference champion and the playoff/bowl picture.
