FOOTBALL: HORNETS RUN WILD ON THE PIRATES

The FC football team kept their winning-ways intact on Saturday bringing down Orange Coast College 35-14 at Costa Mesa's LeBard Stadium.

The win boosts FC's overall record to 8-1 overall and to 3-1 in the Southern Conference, while the Pirate loss lands them at 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the Southern Conference.

Fullerton put up the game's first points late in the first quarter on a 36-yard strike from QB Jordan Hoy to Daurice Simpson.

OCC tied it up in the beginning of the second quarter on a 50-yard bomb from QB Kody Whitaker to Gunar Perales.

Running back Phillip Butler punched his first of three touchdowns on a 1-yard plunge with 3:37 left in the half.

In the second half, the Orange Coast offense came out clicking and scored in 8 plays that were capped off by a 2-yard run by Whitaker.

With the score tied 14-14 (11:12 3Q), the Hornets began playing their brand of football. Butler got it started by ripping off a 26-yard TD run on the next drive, and then he took a 30-yard pass the distance for a score with 7:39 left in the third quarter. Anthony Wood put the nail in the coffin scoring from 2-yards out to finish the rally with 9:21 left in regulation.

After letting OCC in the game in the second half, Fullerton's offense scored 21 points while the defense kept the Pirate offense scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The Hornet running game was on point with RB Phillip Butler rushing for 120 yards on 12 carries. Butler had three touchdowns on the day scoring two on the ground and grabbing one from the air. RB Anthony Wood made his presence felt rushing for 97 yards on 14 carries and scoring a touchdown. RB Aundre Carter ran for 41 yards on 4 carries and QB Jordan Hoy had 34 yards on 6 carries. In total, the FC running game garnered 310 yards.

Jordan Hoy passed for 198 yards (15 of 26) with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. Hoy now owns the school record for most TDs thrown in a season with 28. He came into the game today tied at 26 with Jose Escobar (2013) and Darius Banks (2010).

Place kicker Jonathan Aguilar broke more records going 5 for 5 on PAT attempts. Aguilar broke the record for most PATS in a season and successful PATs in a season at 58. The previous records of 53 were held by Sam Paulescu in 2003.

Leading the charge for the Hornet defense were linebackers Jamal Scott and Justin Parcells with 7 tackles each. LB Javon Burriss had 6 tackles. Tim Gordon, Montre Bonner, and Quentin Yontz each contributed 5 tackles a piece.
